Who are the people in our neighborhoods? In any city or town, it's possible, even probable, that we move through time in our own silos, not really knowing about or engaging in the lives of the people walking alongside us. Maybe the desire is there, to reach out, to say hello or to stop by, but fear and uncertainty frequently keep us isolated.
In life, the treasure is in the unlikely bonds we can form with one another, through opening our eyes and working together.
No other city has seized the world's imagination like Detroit, through its many challenges and reincarnations. Through unlikely collaborations, through the skeins that connect us, through holding the space for new relationships to form, the Beacon Projects, at their core, are about forging friendships, strengthening relationships and leaving our comfort zones to build family.
Please join us for a screening of Tylor Norwood's film, The United States of Detroit, where you'll get to know your neighbors a little bit better, where our friends Pastor Barry Randolph, Kadiri Sennefer, Oya Amakisi, DJ Valdez and many others get to shine their lights and invite us into their lives.
This will be the first film to screen at the Fisher Theatre in over 30 years. All proceeds from this film premiere will benefit BLVD Harambee.
